Schariwari, - folk-rock at its purest!

... Songs that tell stories an relate feelings an experiences that move you to the core.
Their songs have something to say, skilfully capture the spirit of our time, and yet
remain timeless.

The two composers and lyricists Günther Lohmeier and Hans Reupold met in
the earlyseventies when both were playing in a various rock bands. In 1977 they
finally got together to form their own project "Schariwari" and began writing songs
in their own language.

It wasn´t long before the band began to get noticed on Munich´s cabaret club circuit.
And as the years went on, their popularity stadily
spread. Soon they were appearing
at numerous concerts an festivals
and on radio an TV shows.

Their musical style is a crossover between earthy folk, driving rock, melancholy blues an sensitive ballads. Imaginative compositions with poetic lyrics are woven into sophisticated arrangements and crafted into expressive songs of real substance.

Their abiding amibition is to write songs that have something to tell you. The band´s live appearances in particular are a very special treat for their audiences. The concert
programme is a mixture of poetry, satire
and humour, with a dash of mysticism and
an infectious send of fun.

So how do you describe Schariwari in brief? Perhaps this captures the spirit:
"Schariwari" is a band of true musicians whose songs paint
pictures that reach
out and move you.

The band name: Charivari is originally a French word meaning "hollabaloo" - but in
Bavaria Charivari is to be found on traditional
costumes as a decorative chain sporting
a motley collection of Charms
and pedants. The band´s name was chosen to signify
in idiosyncratic
mixture of widely varying musical styles.

Their music has long been acclaimed as a jewel on the German music scene, as proven
by prestigious distinctions such as the "German Phono
Academy Award",
"Song Poets´Price" and the "German Rock and Pop
Award" for their Mystical.

The band´s first LP "Leit schaugt´s ma in´s G´sicht" ("Look me in the face, people")
dates back to 1980. The second album "Der Mensch geht
vor" ("Mankind comnes first")
followed in 1981. 1983 saw the appearance
of the third vinyl production "De Zeit is reif"
("The time is ripe").

In 1990 they released the "Best-of" CD "Rockballaden" ("Rock Ballads"), in 1995
the D "Zaubertroll" ("Magic Troll") and in the 1997 the Mystical
CD "Bayerische
Rauhnacht" ("Bavarian Yuletide"). The newest album
(2003) is titled "Gemeinsamkeiten"
(Wavelengths").
